The Artist

Belinda was born in Hackney, in 1960 and has lived here all her life. Her father was a carpenter, and from an early age, she showed a natural gift for working with colour. Her primary school teachers were the first to recognise her artistic talent—they later attended her first exhibition at Hackney City Farm in 1998.

Before joining Submit to Love Studios, Belinda worked at Fellows Court and Haggerston Community Centre, where she ran art classes for the local community.

Belinda’s creative practice includes painting and printmaking, but more recently she has found a deep passion for stitching. She now spends most of her time in the studio, creating detailed textile works—often of dogs.

“I stitch because it’s exciting. I love choosing the colours. When I stitch, it makes me think good things—it takes all my troubles away.”

Her stitching style mixes short patterns with long, overlapping stitches, allowing her to explore texture and colour in bold, expressive ways. Always pushing herself, Belinda continues to develop her textile work and finds joy and peace through the process.
