Peaks of Imperfection - Supper Club & Film Screening

Thursday 30th April

6pm - 9:30pm

@ The Art House, 30-36 Pritchards Rd, E2 9AP

The closing night of Peaks of Imperfection. A communal supper club, a film screening, and the artists in conversation.

For eight days, nineteen artists - all of whom are affected by brain injury - from Submit to Love Studios, have occupied The Art House with work that spans painting, ceramics, embroidery, sculpture, drawing, stitchwork, poetry and music. Tonight, we gather around the table to celebrate what they've built.

The evening brings together a film, artist talks offering a direct line into the creative processes behind the work, and a supper prepared in the communal, inclusive spirit that defines both The Art House and Headway East London - the latter of which is home to the exhibition's artists, a phenomenal kitchen project, and a wide, rich community of people affected by brain injury.

The film - Graham Naylor: Why I Paint Mountains - offers a rare glimpse into the life and practice of the artist and Submit to Love member, Graham Naylor, and a deeply personal account of his surviving of an avalanche.

When asked why he paints mountains, Graham responds simply: “because I died up one.”

Through this experience, the film reflects on the fragility of life, the shifting of identity post-brain-injury, the enduring importance of art, and Graham's ever-evolving relationship with imperfection as something to be embraced rather than corrected.

Closing the show with this powerful film, alongside food, conversation, and surrounded by the works, feels only right.

Ticket includes food, screening and access to the Peaks of Imperfection exhibition.
